Taylor Tosses Perfect Inning In AFL Fall Stars Game

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Former Texas Tech baseball pitching standout Corey Taylor posted a perfect inning of relief action in Saturday's Arizona Fall League's Fall Stars Game at Surprise Stadium.
Taylor, who pitched for the Red Raiders from 2013-2015, was called upon to pitch the bottom of the fourth for the East squad. He opened the frame with a strikeout of Cody Bellinger, ringing up the first baseman after getting ahead 0-2 in the count with a pair of four-seam fastballs. Three pitches later, Taylor got Bellinger on a slider for the swinging strikeout. The other two outs in the inning were grounders to the second baseman.
Taylor was a bright spot for the East team, who dropped a 12-4 decision to the West Fall Stars in the 11th annual contest.
In six games for the Scottsdale Scorpions this fall, Taylor has allowed two earned runs over 8.1 innings pitched for a 2.16 ERA. He's racked up seven strikeouts, allowing only one walk and eight hits for a 1.08 WHIP, while earning one save.
The right-hander was the St. Lucie Meters closer during the 2016 season, his second year in the pros, recording 20 saves and striking out 45 batters behind a 1.87 ERA.
Taylor pitched three seasons at Texas Tech before being selected in the seventh round in 2015 by the New York Mets.
