Lady Raiders Cruise to 121-56 Exhibition Win

All five starters score double-digits in Lady Raiders victory
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech showcased the new 2016-17 team as all 10 Lady Raiders scored in a 121-56 exhibition win over Midwestern State on Sunday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena.

The Lady Raiders opened with a 37-point first quarter, the most points scored in a quarter since Texas Tech scored 31 points in the third quarter of the Southeastern Louisiana game (Nov. 21, 2015).

The Lady Raiders scored 66 points in the first half alone, marking the most points scored in a half since scoring 57 against Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 21, 2015).

"I'm really proud of the balance in our team and the tempo that we played with. The first half we really showed the speed that we can play with," Head Coach Candi Whitaker said.

Six Lady Raiders scored double-digit points led by Japreece Dean who scored 21 points. Jada Terry, Ivonne CookTaylor, and Recee' Caldwell followed with 16 a piece while freshman starter Arella Guirantes scored 14 points.

As a team, the Lady Raiders shot 64 percent from the field (48-for-75) and 52 percent (13-for-25) from behind the arch.

"I loved the versatility, I loved the balance in scoring and the fact that we have a high number of assists on our shots is a great sign. We shared the ball really well and it's always fun when it goes in. This is a team that we really believe in their ability to score and shoot it and they showed that tonight," Whitaker said.

Midwestern State led by one at the beginning of the game, 3-2, but from there the Lady Raiders dominated the rest of the way.

The Lady Raiders held Midwestern State to just seven points in the second quarter, the lowest of the game. Terry led the Lady Raider defense with eight boards and four blocks.

Texas Tech returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 13, for the regular season opener as the Lady Raiders host North Dakota at 2 p.m.
