LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech men's and women's cross country teams were honored for their work in the classroom on Friday after being named NCAA Division I All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic squad, the team must have had a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better and must have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championships.
The women's team recorded a 3.527 GPA, while the men's team posted a GPA of 3.141.
Earlier this season, the Red Raiders placed 13 on the Academic All-Big 12 teams, the most team members since 2010, when they had 15 honored by the conference.
Junior Jocelyn Caro racked up All-Big 12 honors at the conference meet on Oct. 31 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her time of 21:04.2 in the women's 6K earned her a seventh-place finish and was the 16th-fastest time at the Big 12 Championships by a Red Raider. Caro would also be the top finisher for Tech at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships at 21:52.83.
