Texas Tech Wraps Day One Of TCU Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Texas Tech track & field completed the first day of the TCU Invitational with three personal-bests and a pair of second-place finishes on Thursday at the Lowdon Track & Field Complex.

In the finals, she hovered around the same mark, putting up a throw of 53.16m/174-5 on her fifth attempt and surpassed it on her last throw at 53.21m/174-7.
Hannah Carson, the 2015 Big 12 Champion in the women's discus, finished second overall on Thursday afternoon, tossing it to a distance of 53.15m/174-4. The mark came on her first attempt of the day.
On the men's side, Kirk Weldon posted PR's with his second and third throws of the event. His second toss landed at a distance of 46.50m/152-6, while his next attempt went almost two feet further at 47.03m/154-3, earning him ninth.
Weldon also set a personal-best in the men's hammer throw on his third attempt of the afternoon. His toss of 49.26m/161-7 was the second-best among the first flight of competitors, but ended up 10th overall.
The Red Raiders return for day two of the TCU Invitational on Friday, March 18, beginning at 9 a.m. with the women's javelin.
