Hannah Carson, the 2015 Big 12 Champion and NCAA runner-up in the women's javelin, recorded a victory in the event to start the day for the Red Raiders. After tossing her first attempt just outside the boundary, Carson launched her second throw to a distance of 54.77m/179-8 to take a lead she would hold for the rest of the competition. She would be the only athlete to reach 160', doing so on three of her throws.
Her mark stands as the No. 8 throw in school history, a list that she already owned all of the top 10 marks, setting eight last season. Her toss on Saturday also broke the complex record of 53.67m/176-1 set in 2008 by Katie Coronado (New Mexico).
The Red Raiders swept the men's and women's long jump crowns thanks to Charles Brown and Shanice Stewart. Having to jump in the wind, Brown leaped to a mark of 7.42m/24-4.25 on his fifth attempt to take home the win. On the women's side, Stewart jumped for a distance of 6.07m/19-11.0 on her final jump to grab the victory.
Tech posted the top four spots among collegiate athletes in the women's long jump. Following Stewart was: Gionna Jackson (5.98m/19-7.5), Kaylee Hinton (5.83m/19-1.5) and Amani Nesmith (5.69m/18-8).
Vincent Crisp picked up a win in the men's 800-meter run. The freshman crossed the finish line with a time of 1:51.22 for the win, while senior Nick Rivera followed closely behind at 1:52.29 to place third.

In the 200-meter dash, Sara Limp rattled off a second-place finish in her heat and third overall behind a time of 23.73.
Also earning third in her respective event was Haley Cook in the pole vault. After a strong indoor season, Cook recorded an outdoor PR of 4.15m/13-7.25 after clearing the bar on her second attempt at the height.
Up next for the Red Raiders will be their first home meet of 2016, the Texas Tech Open, on Thursday, March 24, at the Terry & Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex.
