LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech fell, 3-1, to Abilene Christian Wednesday in the Red Raiders' first midweek appearance at Rocky Johnson Field this season."I thought their pitcher threw a really great game," Texas Tech head coach Adrian Gregory said. "I thought they played great all day. We are in our own heads right now. We haven't hit well in a while and until we can change that this is the situation we are in."
The Red Raiders found themselves down 2-0 after the Wildcats (19-18) plated a run in the top of the second and third innings.
Following back-to-back scoreless frames, the Red Raiders broke onto the board with a solo shot from freshman Jessica Hartwell. The home run was Hartwell's sixth of the season and the 12th by a freshman in 2016.
The Red Raider comeback was halted from there, however, as the Wildcats added another run in the top of the seventh to close out the 3-1 victory.
With Wednesday's loss, the Red Raiders moved to 10-1 all-time against the Wildcats, including a 5-1 record against ACU in Lubbock. The loss also dropped the Red Raiders to 19-25 on the season.
"We have to change our mental state," Gregory added. "We have played this game a long time and we need to keep it simple and compete every single pitch."
The Red Raiders will continue Big 12 play with a three-game series against Iowa State beginning Friday night at Rocky Johnson Field. First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT followed by a 4 p.m. in game two of the series on Saturday. The Red Raiders and Cyclones will conclude their Big 12 series on Sunday at noon.
