Mounts was a two-time selection of the UPI “Small All-American” during the 1961-62 and 1962-63 seasons.
WACO, Texas – Former Texas Tech guard Del Ray Mounts will be inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame in a ceremony Monday at the Hilton Fort Worth Downtown Hotel.
The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame is one of four separate halls of fame housed within the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco. They include the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
Mounts, who turned down scholarship offers at smaller colleges for the chance to walk-on at Texas Tech, was a two-time All-Southwest Conference pick and a two-time member of the UPI "Small All-American" in 1961-62 and 1962-63.
Mounts cracked the starting lineup as a sophomore and paced the SWC with 18.9 points per game during the 1960-61 season. His play sparked a late-season surge that vaulted the Red Raiders to a fourth-place tie in the SWC standings.
Mounts would play in a pivotal role in Texas Tech's back-to-back NCAA Tournament trips. He averaged 19.9 points per game, third in the SEC, as a junior. The Red Raiders finished 15-8 before falling to Cincinnati and Houston at the NCAAs.
Mounts contributed a SWC co-leading 16.9 points per game during his senior season, and Texas Tech compiled an 18-6 record highlighted by an NCAA Tournament win over Air Force. He wrapped up his career with 1,346 points which ranked second only behind Jim Reed when he graduated. Mounts currently ranks 13th on Tech's scoring list.
The 2016 SWC Hall of Fame class also includes Joe Kleine (Arkansas), Roger Goree (Baylor), Doug Drabek (Houston), Valerie Tulloch Cramer (Rice), Janet Ely (SMU), Travis Mays (Texas), Dave Elmendorf (Texas A&M) and Mike Renfro (TCU).

Season tickets are on-sale and feature affordable payment plans along with a family four-pack of season tickets starting at $199 in designated general admission sections and reserved season tickets for as low as $199.

Texas Tech, under the direction of head coach Chris Beard, returns five players who started 10-plus games from last year's team which posted a 19-13 record and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007 when Beard served as an assistant coach.
Texas Tech brings back its leading scorer (Aaron Ross – 12.5 PPG), leading rebounder (Zach Smith – 7.5 RPG) and leading assist man (Keenan Evans – 2.6 APG) from Big 12 play last season. The Red Raiders also return over 65 percent of their points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals from 2015-16.
Texas Tech has added a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Americans in Niem Stevenson and Shadell Millinghaus. The Red Raiders also have brought in two graduate transfers in Anthony Livingston, an All-Sun Belt performer at Arkansas State, along with Giovanni McLean who led Quinnipiac in scoring last season. Former four-star recruit Brandone Francis and Tommy Hamilton IV have transferred to Texas Tech and will sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
