GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Texas Tech Volleyball defeated North Dakota, 3-0, Saturday evening at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, sweeping its weekend matches at the North Dakota State Classic and earning its fourth consecutive victory overall.
Â
The Red Raiders (4-2) hit an impressive .327 en route to the 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 victory. Junior Courtney Ensch, who recorded five kills against the Fighting Hawks (2-4), was named to the NDSU Classic All-Tournament Team after posting 25 kills over the weekend.
Â
"It's great to end the weekend with another road win against a quality team," head coach Tony Graystone said. "North Dakota was a real challenge, but we played our best match of the season and were able to hold them off every time they made a run. I was really happy with our ball control and offensively, Lauren (Douglass) and Toni (McDougald) were tough to stop."
Â
Senior Lauren Douglass led the attack for the Red Raiders with a match-high 15 kills, while freshman Toni McDougald added 13 of her own. Senior Marguerite Grubb posted her first double-double of the season with 33 assists and 16 digs defensively.
Â
Tech utilized a potent offensive attack in the first set and put together an 8-2 spurt midway through the set to claim a 17-13 lead. Douglass and Ensch recorded kills to help Tech maintain control before a kill from junior Hannah Henriksen gave Tech the set, 25-20.
Â
The Red Raiders scored the first five points in the second set before North Dakota was able to get on the board. With Tech up 7-6, the Red Raider offense took over, amassing an impressive .424 hitting percentage in the set to grab a 25-18 win.
Â
The third set also belonged to the Red Raiders as back-to-back kills from Grubb and Henriksen put Tech up 21-18. Douglass would close the match with her 15th kill of the night to give the Red Raiders the set, 25-22.
Â
"It's exciting to see us get better every match and for our confidence to continue to grow. We're all anxious to get back to Lubbock and finally play our home opener on Monday."
Â
Texas Tech opens its home slate Monday against UTEP at 6 p.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena. Due to the installation of the new videoboard at the facility, the match will be played in the practice gym on the north edge of the arena.
