Miguel Bautista sets new meet record in the 3000-meter race.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Red Raiders racked up 29 personal records today in College Station, Texas as they took on Texas A&M, Georgia, TCU, Arizona State, UTSA and UT-Arlington.
Junior Miguel Bautista improved his mark in the 3000-meter run creating a new meet record time of 8:07.70. This time is a 12.95 second improvement from his personal-best last year at the A&M Quadrangular. Last week at the Arkansas Invitational, Bautista had another impressive 10 second personal-best improvement in the mile run.
"I feel we had a good day with a lot of our kids starting to understand how to compete against better competition," Head Coach Wes Kittley said. "Good teams here today and it was good to see us compete with some of the best in the country!"
Charles Brown and Justin Hall led the men's long jump today finishing No. 1 and No. 3, both securing personal records. Brown came in with a best jump of 7.81m/25-7.50 and Hall at 7.17m/23-6.25. Brown's jump puts him in the No. 4 spot so far this season in the NCAA for the men's long jump and ties him for seventh in the world this year.
Sophomore Kaylee Hinton and freshman Norman Grimes had strong performances in the 60-meter hurdles today as they both recorded personal-bests. Hinton's time of 8.50 beat her previous personal record of 8.51 recorded at the Big 12 Championships last year. Grimes pushed for a time of 8.00 securing his second-place overall finish.
Sophomore Drew McMichael was the leader for Texas Tech in the men's pole vault as he cleared a personal-best 5.03m/16-6 earning him fifth overall.
All of the women's high jumpers hit personal-best marks today including Zarriea Willis (1.80m/5-10.75) Kaylee Hinton (1.71m/5-7.25), Cyre Virgo (1.66m/5-5.25) and Rose Njoku (1.66m/5-5.25).
Next weekend the team will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to participate in the Adidas Classic one-day meet, beginning Saturday, January 28.
