Women’s Tennis Wins Home Opener Over UC Santa Barbara

Lady Raiders win four straight singles matches to clinch the dual match
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Women's Tennis team earned its first win of the season, 4-1, over UC Santa Barbara in the opening match of the ITA Kick-off Weekend.
After dropping the doubles point to the Gouchos, the Lady Raiders clinched the match win with four straight singles wins.
Junior Katelyn Jackson tied up the match, 1-1, for the Lady Raiders with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Stephanie Yamada. Junior Sabrina Federici followed with a straight set win, 7-5, 6-1.
Sarah Dvorak forced a tiebreak in her first set against Stefani Stojic and came out with the 7-6 (7-5) win. She went on to earn the Lady Raiders' third point of the day with a 6-2 win in set two.
Junior Gabriela Talaba clinched the match win for the Lady Raiders with a tough three-set win. She opened the match with a 6-4 win in set one. UCSB's Palina Dubavets tied the match, 1-1, with a 6-3 set two. But Talaba came back and won set three, 6-2, to end the match.
Doubles duo No. 14 Federici and Dvorak defeated UCSB's No. 33 Baker/Yamada, 7-5, for their first ranked win of the season.
The Lady Raiders will face Arizona State tomorrow at 3 p.m.
