The Red Raiders also have three singles players and two doubles teams in the ITA preseason rankings.
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team debuted with a No. 23 national ranking during the first Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings announced Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Red Raiders are joined by Texas (4), TCU (7), Oklahoma (12) Oklahoma State (14) and Baylor (22). The six Big 12 schools inside the ITA's Top 25 are tied for the most by a single conference with the SEC.
Texas Tech has three singles players and two doubles teams listed among the ITA preseason rankings. Jolan Cailleau leads the way at No. 25 followed by Connor Curry and Ronit Bisht at No. 104 and No. 120 spots, respectively. In doubles, Bisht and Curry check in at No. 50 whereas Alex Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson hold the No. 60 position.
"It's always nice to start the season being ranked and in the Top 25," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "Again, I feel like we have a lot to prove again this year losing our two top players in Felipe and Hugo. I feel this team can get us to where we were last year and contending with other top teams. I'm happy for the guys getting recognized individually. We had some great fall seasons especially with Jolan probably getting the best results. Hopefully, they can keep getting better throughout the season and improve on those rankings."
Cailleau dialed up an 11-5 singles mark during the fall. He earned a wildcard into the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in New York after he secured a runner-up finish at the ITA Texas Regionals.
Curry tucked away singles wins during nine of his 13 fall outings highlighted by winning the backdraw at the Cajun Classic hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette and three prequalifying victories at the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships. Bisht's fall campaign was highlighted by ranked wins over opponents from Florida and Ole Miss.
The Red Raiders start their fall season against Arizona, New Mexico and UCF from Jan. 13-14 held at the new USTA National Campus in Orlando.
