LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's track & field team claimed the No. 12 spot in the preseason computer rankings announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this afternoon.
Texas Tech boasts eight returning student-athletes who earned All-American Honors in previous performances, four of which received the achievements from indoor season performances.
Junior National high jump Champion Trey Culver is a Red Raider to look for this season as he was named to the Bowerman Preseason Watch List last week by the USTFCCCA. Culver was named first team All-American for both his indoor and outdoor high jump showings last year and second team All-American his freshman year during the outdoor season.
Three of the four indoor All-American returners were part of the 2015 and 2016 indoor relay team. Junior Steven Champlin, senior Kyle Collins and junior C.J. Jones all garnered first and second team All-American honors from their performances in the 4x400-meter relay.
Returners receiving All-American recognition for their outdoor performances are: sophomore pole vaulter Brandon Bray, sophomore jumper Charles Brown, sophomore middle distance runner Vincent Crisp and senior distance runner Benard Keter.
The Red Raiders open the 2017 season at the Commodore Invitational this Friday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. CST in Nashville, Tennessee.
