Five Red Raiders Named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams

Texas Tech leads the way with two student-athletes represented with a 4.00 GPA
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball placed five student-athletes on the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the league office announced today.

Junior Kyndal Cowan and redshirt freshman Eighmy Dobbins headlined the first team selections as both posted a 4.00 grade point average. The Red Raider duo was two of four student-athletes in the Big 12 to record perfect GPAs. Cowan, a native of Midland, Texas, is a Communication Studies major, while Dobbins, an Argyle, Texas, native, is studying advertising.

Junior Katy Keenan and sophomore Kylie Rittimann also received nods to the first team, while sophomore Chandler Atwood garnered second team accolades. Keenan, also of Argyle, is majoring in Restaurant, Retail & Hotel Management, while Rittimann of San Antonio, Texas, is working towards her bachelor's in Civil Engineering.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Red Raiders head to Fort Worth to battle TCU Wednesday, looking for the season sweep over the Horned Frogs. First serve at the TCU Recreation Center is slated for 6 p.m.
