Texas Tech looks for signature win to memorable 2017 campaign.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball plays its final match of the regular season at No. 22 Iowa State Saturday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. The match will be video streamed on the subscription-based Cyclones.TV, while live stats are available at Statbroadcast.com.
Â
Texas Tech (15-13, 4-11) looks to put a bow on one of its best seasons since the turn of the century. The Red Raiders head to Ames seeking a signature win for its 2017 campaign after already earning the program's first winning regular season since 2001. A win at Iowa State (20-6, 10-5) would also give Tech its most Big 12 wins since 2002 and most regular season victories since 2001.
Â
Tech nearly knocked off the Cyclones in Lubbock back in September, winning the first two sets before falling in five. Four Red Raiders finished with double-digit kills with junior Katy Keenan placing 16 kills on .433 hitting. Iowa State's Samara West led the Cyclones with 20 kills at a .342 clip and seven blocks.
Â
"I think that was our third conference match, so a lot of time has passed," head coach Tony Graystone said about their previous match with the Cyclones. "We've gotten better, and they've gotten better. Iowa State has a great home court environment. It will be a fun match. For us, we're going to rest up, regroup and watch that film again to see if we've got to change anything."
Â
With the regular season coming to a close Saturday, Tech currently sit in seventh place in the Big 12 standings and can finish no worse than in a tie for seventh, which would mark its highest finish in the league standings since 2002. The Red Raiders could move into a tie for fifth with a win Saturday and some help from around the league.
Â
Tech split their matches last week, picking up a sweep at TCU last Wednesday before a hard-fought 3-1 loss to No. 16 Kansas Friday on Senior Night.
Â
Iowa State earned a pair of road sweeps last week, first at Oklahoma on Wednesday and then at TCU Saturday. The Cyclones are 9-3 at home this season, falling only to Baylor and Texas at home during league play.
Â
The Red Raiders trail in the overall series, 20-26, and look to snap a 22-match skid to the Cyclones dating back to 2006. Tech is also seeking its first ranked win since 2012, first ranked road win since 2004 and first win in Ames since 2004.
