Elin Arvidsson tees off the final stage of LPGA qualifying Wednesday morning in Florida
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's golf alumnae Elin Arvidsson will begin the final stage of LPGA qualifying school Wednesday with the first of potentially five rounds at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Â
Arvidsson is one of 166 players who will be vying to be among the top finishers who will automatically earn their LPGA cards at the conclusion of the tournament. The category status and number of membership cards issued will be determined by the LPGA prior to the start of Wednesday's opening round.
Â
The field consists of qualifiers from the second stage of qualifying (top 80 and ties) as well as the top 15 players on the Symetra Tour money list, players who were granted LPGA medical extensions in 2016 as well as a select few LPGA Tour members. All players will play a minimum of 72 holes, while the top 70 (and ties) will advance to Sunday's fifth and final round.
Â
Arvidsson is in the field after finishing tied for 61st over four rounds Oct. 19-22 in the second stage of qualifying held at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida. She began the tournament with a 3-over-par 75 before moving up the leaderboard with a 3-under 69 second round. Arvidsson combined to shoot 4-over during the final two rounds to finish among the top 80 advancing players.
Â
Arvidsson has entered 11 tournament on the Symetra Tour since this past June with her highest finish coming at the Donald Ross Centennial Classic (tied for 26th) in early July. Possibly the highlight of Arvidsson's career came just a week later when she played in the U.S. Women's Open, her first career major appearance.
Â
The Falkenberg, Sweden native wrapped her Tech career by helping the Red Raiders post a fifth-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships. She boasted a 75.5 scoring average over her career, which ranks third all-time in program history behind current LPGA standout Kim Kaufman (2009-13) and Gabby Dominguez (2009-13).
Â
Live scoring and tournament updates will be available throughout the week on LPGA.com as well as @TexasTechWGolf on Twitter.
