Cross Country Hits NCAA Mountain Regional

Texas Tech sends 14 student-athletes to the NCAA Mountain Region Championships in Logan, Utah.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Cross Country is taking 14 Red Raiders to the NCAA Mountain Region Championships in Logan, Utah, to race on Friday, Nov. 10 hosted by Utah State University.
The women's 6k race is set to begin at 11:15 a.m. CST and the men will follow with their 10k trail at 12:15 p.m. CST, both taking place on the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course.
The Red Raiders will be competing against: Airforce, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, UTEP, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State and Wyoming.
Running for Texas Tech is: Stephen Alvarez, Kaylee Amershek, Michael Benoit, Clark Blunt, Denae Chapman, Nokuthula Dlamini, Nathan Gift, Todd Mickey, Lauren Offerman, Taryn Otto, Hattie Schunk, Jasmine Torres, Ebenether Wondaferew and Joacim Zuniga.
The Red Raiders are coming off of a strong conference performance at the Big 12 Championship in Round Rock, Texas, two weeks ago. The men's team took a No. 5 team finish overall with 151 points, while the women finished eighth with 196 points.
The men's team tied for their highest finish overall at the conference championship meet. The women had the second-highest finish and score in their past five championship appearances.
Dlamini continued to lead the women, having the highest Red Raider finish at the meet at No. 16. Zuniga also kept up his leading trend on the men's side, with a 22nd place lifetime-best 8k run at 24:38.2.
The top two teams at each of the nine regional sites automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, along with 13 at-large spots to create a field of 31 teams. The 2017 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships will take place on Nov. 18, 2017 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
