Zarriea Willis secured the women’s indoor high jump record while Viershanie Latham achieved the triple jump record.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders had a strong weekend overall, topped off by a great Saturday afternoon at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville.
"We had some great PRs over the two days of competition with some really good teams from all over the country," Head Coach Wes Kittley said. "On the women's side it was good to see Zarriea get to 1.85m in the high jump, Viershanie looked good in the triple jump and our 4x400 relay team keeps improving! On the men's side Kyle Collins in the 400, both Vincent and C.J. in the 800m, Trevin and Andrew in the 200m and the 4x400 ran really well!"
After clearing her personal-best 1.80m/5-10.75 bar in the first attempt, Zarriea Willis achieved a new lifetime best 1.85m/6-0.75 on her final jump. This bar secured her the top mark in the Texas Tech indoor record book.
Improving from a 21.49 personal best to a lifetime best of 21.16, Trevin Chambers secured a first-place finish in the men's 200-meter race.
Viershanie Latham also had a big day in the triple jump beating her previous record of 13.31m/43-8 set at last year's Tyson Invitational. Her new mark of 13.33m/43-8.75 is a lifetime best and an indoor school record.
The men's 4x400 relay (Kyle Collins, Andrew Hudson, Vincent Crisp and Steven Champlin) pushed for a No. 5 Texas Tech indoor record run of 3:05.95.
The fastest women's 4x400 relay time of the season was achieved by Marika Brown, Sara Limp, Taylor Rockwell and Maygen Smith finishing in 3:37.69.
Justin Hall improved his triple jump mark to a new personal-best 14.94m/49-0.25 beating his previous mark earned in Fayetteville earlier this season.
Todd Mickey and Jasmine Torres ran the mile in Ames, Iowa this afternoon clocking 4:14.34 and 5:03.62 times respectively.
"It was really good for us to compete on two hard days in a row before the Big 12 Championships in two weeks. Some good stuff today," Coach Kittley concluded.
The season will pick up on February 24th and 25th at the Big 12 Championships in the Lied Recreation Athletic Center in Ames, Iowa.
