Women’s Tennis Jumps to No. 5 in ITA Rankings

Top 5 ranking ties program high
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Texas Tech Women's Tennis team jumped to No. 5 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
The Lady Raiders reached as high as No. 5 last season (March 1), marking a program high.
Texas Tech is one of five Big 12 teams to rank in the Top 25. Oklahoma State sits No. 6 in the nation just behind the Lady Raiders.
The Lady Raiders defeated two Top 10 opponents during the ITA National Indoor Championships earlier this month.
In singles play, junior Gabriela Talaba moved up to a tie for 11th in the country. Talaba posted a 1-2 record during the indoor championships. She picked up her second Top 10 win of the season with a 6-3, 7-5 sweep over No. 7 Luisa Stefani of Pepperdine.
Sophomore Felicity Maltby jumped up to No. 32 in the nation after a 2-0 weekend in New Haven, Conn. Maltby was named Big 12 Player of the Week (2/14) after she earned two Top 25 win including a win over No. 8 Sydney Campbell (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) of Vanderbilt. She also earned the Lady Raiders lone point against No. 1 Florida.
Sophomore Alex Valenstein earned a spot in the ITA Rankings for the first time this season. She went 2-1 during the indoor nationals and snagged two win over ranked opponents.
In doubles, juniors Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici held their spot at No. 23 while Talaba and Maltby jumped from unranked to No. 33 in the latest rankings.
Talaba and Maltby went 3-0 and earned two ranked wins in New Haven. The duo was named to the ITA All-Tournament Team following their outstanding showing at the championship tournament.
