February 03, 2017 | Track and Field
Red Raiders face Texas Tech standouts Bradley Adkins and Chris Caldwell.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Texas Tech track & field had an impressive first day at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic & Multis as they claimed 20 personal records.
Trey Culver and Texas Tech Olympian Bradley Adkins went head to head in the men's high jump for the top-two spots. Adkins' mark puts him at No. 3 in the world and Culver's at No. 10. Culver's final clearance of 2.23m/7-3.75 matched his indoor personal-record jump that earned him the NCAA Indoor National Championship crown last year. This bar also put him in position to claim No. 2 in the NCAA so far this season.
In a close third in the high jump was Charles Brown who pushed for an impressive new personal-best 2.20m/7-2.50 clearance. In fifth was Justin Hall who also achieved a PR jump of 2.05m/6-8.75.
"I was extremely pleased with the entire group as a whole" Associate Head Men's Coach James Thomas said. "They competed to win in many events. Trey, Charles and Justin made huge strides today but Zarriea is showing tremendous consistency for the women. It was a fun day of track & field."
Darien Tennon matched his 7.94 personal record in the 60H prelims, placing second behind Red Raider alumni Chris Caldwell (7.69) advancing him to the final round. Also advancing is Caleb Richmond who completed the run in 8.39.

Vincent Crisp paced a 1:17.60 personal record 600-meter run to claim first place. This tops his previous PR of 1:18.64 achieved at last year's New Mexico Classic.
Andrew Hudson matched his 200-meter PR of 20.80 earning him second place. This mark currently holds an 11th place world ranking.
Zarriea Willis hit her mark of 1.80m/5-10.75 for the third-consecutive meet maintaining her personal best mark.
