No. 7 Red Raiders Take Third In Las Vegas

Texas Tech gets two top-six finishes and places third in a loaded field
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 7 Texas Tech men's golf team went under par again in the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate, taking third place as a team on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Tech (+3) collectively shot a 1-under 287 for the second-straight day, enough to leapfrog from fifth place into third, finishing behind No. 4 USC and No. 6 Oklahoma State.

The Red Raiders were one of six top-10 teams participating, according to the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, and finished above No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Illinois, No. 8 Stanford, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 15 San Diego State and No. 23 UNLV, among others.

Tech picked up two top-10 finishes from Hannes Ronneblad (-4), who tied for seventh, and Ivan Ramirez (-5), who tied for third after shooting consecutive rounds of 68 to close out the tournament.

"I'm happy with the way we keep fighting," Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "We kept climbing the leaderboard after a disappointing opening round, and found ourselves in contention for the last nine holes. I think we have consistently finished well this season, and that bodes well for us moving forward. Obviously, I'm proud of how Ivan Ramirez and Hannes Ronneblad played this week. They both played championship golf on a very challenging course. Playing great courses and fields like this will pay off down the road."

Tech will be back in action less than a week from now, March 12-14, at the Bandon Dunes Championship, which will take place at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
