Hinton Holds Down Heptathlon Title in Kansas

Kaylee Hinton defends her Kansas Relays heptathlon title with a new personal-best point total.
LAWRENCE, Kansas – This afternoon, three multi-event Red Raiders wrapped up their second day of competition in Lawrence, Kansas, one of which with an event title.

Kaylee Hinton secured the heptathlon front for the second year in a row, with a personal-best 5,372 points for the No. 8 all-time outdoor record.
Â
This point total also allowed Hinton a 600-point lead over her closest competitor.
Â
Within the two days, Hinton recorded first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, 200-meter dash, long jump and 800-meter run.

Erin Lopez ended with a personal-best 6,509 points in the decathlon for fourth-place overall, second-place amongst attached athletes.
Â
Lopez finished the day with personal records in the 1500-meter, javelin throw and discus.
Â
His javelin personal-record throw went 41.77m/137-0 beating his previous best of 37.64m/123-6 from the Wes Kittley Invitational.

Lopez also shaved almost 20-seconds off of his 1500-meter time, notching a new personal-record 4:57.66 run.

Rose Njoku completed her two-day heptathlon showing with 4653 points for fifth overall.
Â
Njoku recorded four top-five finishes throughout the competition and had a personal-best 800-meter run of 2:29.43.

Track & field competition will continue through the weekend, picking up on Saturday, April 22 at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas.
