Day One Yields Five First-Place Finishes

Five Red Raider wins were secured this evening in Canyon, Texas.
LUBBOCK, Texas – On day one of the WT Classic & Multis and Sun Angel Classic, twelve Red Raiders yielded top-three finishes in 13 events.
Drew McMichael was the only Red Raider on day one of the Sun Angel Classic tying for second in the men's pole vault at 4.95m/16-2.75.
First place in the women's hammer throw was snagged by Alexis Lewis with her personal-best throw of 54.20m/177-10. This beats her previous record of 53.87m/176-9 made at last year's Wes Kittley Invitational.
Following Lewis in second place was Dorleta Armendariz-Lasa, also throwing a personal-best in the women's hammer at 52.79m/173-2.
The 3,000-meter steeplechase wins were swept by Jasmine Torres and Reagan Mead with their personal-best runs of 11:23.65 and 9:42.31 respectively.
Hunter Carlton and Blake Wood also scooped up wins in the men's and women's pole vault. Carlton won with his 4.85m/15-11 bar clearance, while Wood won with at her height of 3.95m/12-11.50.
Kirsten Johnson pushed for a personal-best mark in the women's 400-meter hurdles clocking a 1:00.81 run to finish second.
The Red Raiders will continue both meets tomorrow with the WT Classic & Multis starting at 9:30 a.m. and the Sun Angel Classic at 2 p.m. Â Â
