The Texas Tech men hold their top-10 USTFCCCA ranking for the seventh-straight week.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's track & field team is ranked No. 6 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) computer rankings.
This weekend in Austin, Texas, the men's team has a total of 19 qualifying entries spanning 13 events. Â
To qualify, the Red Raiders had to be ranked inside the top 48 of their individual events and top 24 of the relays to make it into the regional meet. From there, the top 12 of both will punch their ticket and advance to the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Events to look out for this weekend on the men's side are: pole vault, javelin, high jump, long jump, 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 800m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 3,000m steeplechase, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.
Trey Culver stands as the regional leader in the men's high jump with his last clearance of 2.24m/7-4.25 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium. While leading the west region, this height ranks fourth in the NCAA and 27th in the world.
Justin Hall and Erin Lopez enter the long jump with their 8.01m/26-3.50 and 7.49m/24-7 marks, respectively. Hall's leap enters the region meet with a No. 4 ranking.Â
Drew McMichael's school record pole vault height of 5.51m/18-1 from the Big 12 Championship enters the meet in 6th.
Divine Oduduru qualified in both 100-meter and 200-meter dash. Oduduru's times of 10.10 and 20.62 rank seventh and 22nd.
Joining in the short sprints are Trevin Chambers (100m) and Andrew Hudson (200m). Chambers ran a 10.27 race on the Texas Tech home track, which is ranked 26th in the west region. Hudson holds the highest ranking in the 200m, clocking a 20.43 run which sits in 11th.
Steven Champlin and Kyle Collins are entered in the 400-meter dash. Champlin and Collins enter the meet with their 1-2 finishing times from the Red Raider Shootout of 45.12 and 45.17, which hold region rankings of No. 3 and No. 5.
Darien Tennon and Caleb Richmond qualified in the 400-meter hurdles. Tennon holds the highest ranking with his 51.26 run that sits in 23rd and Richmond is in 44th with his 51.96 time.
The 110-meter hurdle qualifiers are Tennon and Dorian Williams with their 13.86 and 14.26 runs. Tennon's time clinches a No. 16 ranking.
Chambers, Hudson, Oduduru and Tennon comprised the men's 4x100 relay, which entered the meet with a 39.40 time that ranks 12th.
As for the men's 4x400 relay, Champlin, Collins, Crisp and Jones staked a No. 4 ranked run in Austin, Texas, clocking a time of 3:03.28.
Werner Bouwer stands in an eighth-place ranking with his season opening best-throw of 72.16m/236-9 in the men's javelin. Hunter Hopkins joins Bouwer with his throw of 62.77m/205-11 from the conference championship meet.
Charles Jones and Vincent Crisp represent the middle-distance group with their No. 4 and 11 ranked 800-meter times of 1:46.70 and 1:47.66.
Big 12 Champion Benard Keter will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He holds a No. 4 ranked time of 8:43.05, notched at the Mt. SAC Relays.
