Three More Red Raiders Bound for Nationals

Three additions to the finals lineup brings the total to nine in the first two days of preliminaries.
AUSTIN, Texas – Day two of the NCAA West Preliminary punched three more Red Raider tickets to Eugene, Oregon.
Zarriea Willis was the first nationals qualifying performance of the day in the women's high jump, finishing after a 1.79m/5-10.50 jump to tie for first-place. Willis cruised through the competition with ease, clearing all three of her attempted bars in the first jump.
The second ticket punched was from Charles Jones in the men's 800-meter quarterfinals. Jones paced a 1:47.41 run that served as sixth-place overall in order to move on to the national stage.
An 8:51.47 3,000-meter steeplechase run from Benard Keter finished up the night for Texas Tech. This run placed him first in his heat and seventh overall to return him to Hayward Field for his second nationals appearance in the steeplechase.
Darien Tennon qualified for tomorrow's 110-meter hurdle quarterfinals with his 14.00 race for the 19th spot.
Red Raider Drew McMichael was just short of traveling to Eugene for his pole vault performance, taking 13th at 5.25m/17-2.50.
Tomorrow Texas Tech will wrap up the NCAA West Preliminary meet, starting with Trey Culver in the men's high jump at 6 p.m.
