Louisa Brunt and Emma Ballard begin play Tuesday in the English and Texas Amateurs
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will have a pair of Lady Raiders playing in top amateur tournaments Tuesday as junior Emma Ballard will take part in the Texas State Amateur while incoming freshman Louisa Brunt will compete in the English Women's Amateur Championship.
Â
Ballard, a native of Kingwood, Texas, will be one of 88 players competing for the top amateur crown in the state which features 18 holes of stroke play Tuesday followed by the seeding of the top 32 players for a match play format.
Â
Ballard played in six events for the Lady Raiders during the 2016-17 campaign where she averaged 77.1 strokes per round. Her season was highlighted by a 35th-place performance early in the year during Tech's own Red Raider Invitational hosted at The Rawls Course.
Â
Brunt, meanwhile, is among the 144 competitors vying to be the top amateur in her native England. The prestigious tournament – which is being held at the Lindrick Golf Club – features 36 holes of stroke play before the field is cut to the top 40 players (and ties) for the final two rounds.
Â
One of the top overseas players for the 2017 class, Brunt has ranked in the top 100 of the European golf poll throughout her amateur career. She has represented her country in multiple overseas tournaments, including the European Nations Cup, the Pleasington Putter and the Helen Holme Scottish Ladies Open.
Â
Brunt and Ballard will both be part of Tech's roster this fall when the Lady Raiders start the 2017-18 campaign at the Jim West Challenge on Sept. 11-12. Tech's full schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
