LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior golfer Gabby Barker claimed her third Idaho Women's Amateur Championship title this past weekend after blistering the Ridgecrest Golf Club with a 12-under 204 card, the lowest score in tournament history.
Â
Barker, who previously won her home state's top amateur tournament in 2013 and 2014, topped the rest of the field by 16 strokes thanks to an under-par score in all three rounds. She started the 54-hole event with a 2-under 70 that was followed by a bogey-free 7-under card, which tied the course record.
Â
The Caldwell, Idaho native closed the tournament with a 3-under round, which was boosted by an eagle at the par-4 15th. Barker posted three of the tournament's four total under-par rounds with the other coming from third-place finisher Kinsley Bonfilio over the final 18 holes.
Â
"It's always fun playing in tournaments back home," Barker said. "I get to play with all of the people I played with in junior golf and play some of my favorite courses. Getting out on a course like Ridgecrest and posting a good score is always a good confidence boost."
Â
Barker has consistently played atop Tech's lineup throughout her Red Raider career as she boasts a 73.4 scoring average over three seasons. She helped lead Tech to its third NCAA Championships appearance in program history this past season after averaging 74.0 strokes per round, the second-lowest clip on the team.
Â
In addition, Barker will enter her senior season this fall with a chance to ink her name into the Tech all-time record book. Already the single-season leader for scoring average, Barker's career mark currently ranks third all-time behind current LPGA professional Kim Kaufman (74.0) as well as Gabby Dominguez (74.1).
Â
Barker begins her senior season with the Lady Raiders on Sept. 11-12 when Tech opens the 2017-18 campaign at the Jim West Challenge. A full tournament schedule will be announced later this week.
