Volleyball Captures Four-Set win Over South Carolina

Red Raiders take on Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon to wrap up the Clemson Challenge
CLEMSON, S.C. – Texas Tech volleyball earned its second big win in the last 24 hours, defeating South Carolina, 3-1, Saturday morning at Jervey Gym in Clemson, S.C.

The match mirrored Tech's four-set victory over Clemson Friday night as Tech dropped the first set but came back to capture each of the next three for the 21-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-23. The Red Raiders (10-2) now have two non-conference victories over current Power Conference opponents for the first time since 2002.

Sophomore Emily Hill led the way offensively with a season-high 19 kills while junior Katy Keenan set a career-high with three service aces. Hill's 19 kills were the most by a Red Raider this season, topping her mark of 17 hit at North Texas.

Tech outhit South Carolina .185 to .162 for the match, including a .271 to .168 edge after the first set. The Red Raiders also owned an overall advantage in kills (55-49), digs (58-54) and blocks (11-10).

The Red Raiders move to 2-0 at the Clemson Challenge and will be crowned champs with a win over Georgia Southern, who they'll square off with this afternoon at 3 p.m. CT.

Freshman Allison White joined Hill in double figures with 10 kills for her second double-digit performance of the season. Junior Missy Owens matched her season high with 49 assists and six digs and libero Reyn Akiu tallied 25 digs.

After dropping the first set, Hill carried the team down the stretch of set No. 2, catching fire with all five of the team's final five kills including the set winner at 26-25.

After controlling the third set, Hill and junior Sarah Redding blasted back-to-back kills to give Tech a 23-21 lead in the fourth. The Gamecocks survived two match points before the Red Raiders closed out its sixth win in seven games.
