Red Raiders and Chaparrals will play a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at Rocky Johnson Field.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball begins its 2017 fall slate with a doubleheader against Midland College beginning at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Rocky Johnson Field. The contests are open to the public with fans receiving complimentary admission.
Â
The doubleheader kicks off a seven-game fall season for the Red Raiders, now in their fourth season under head coach Adrian Gregory.
Â
"We are so excited to host Midland in the start of our fall season," Gregory said. "Our kids have been working so hard and they are ready to dawn their Red Raider uniforms. I believe everyone will be fired up with our newcomers and see just how good our returners are. It should be a great day!"
Â
Wednesday marks the first of two home dates for Tech this fall. The Red Raiders will also host Odessa College Wednesday, Oct. 4, for a single game at 4 p.m. Tech closes the spring at the Triple Crown Sports College Classic Oct. 14-15 in Spring, Texas. Game time and opponents for the event will be announced at a later date.
Â
This marks the third consecutive year Tech has hosted Midland College during the fall. The Red Raiders defeated the Chaparrals 22-1 in ten innings in 2015 before sweeping a doubleheader in 2016 by scores of 9-0 and 5-3.
Â
The Chaparrals enter 2017 under the direction of interim head coach Amanda Evans. Midland advanced to the Regional round of the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament in 2016 and finished with a 38-1 overall record.Â
Â
Texas Tech compiled a 19-36 mark last season, including a 4-14 record in Big 12 play. Junior infielder Jessica Hartwell and sophomore pitcher Kassidy Scott headline a group of 10 returners, while nine newcomers are set to enter the fold in 2017.
