The Red Raiders achieve four top-ten all-time Texas Tech marks on day two of the Texas Tech Classic & Multis.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders closed out day two of the Texas Tech Classic & Multis with 20 personal bests and four top-ten Tech indoor records.
Trey Culver showed out for the city of Lubbock once again, this time against a strong fleet of high jumpers, five of which who entered the competition having cleared 7'-5".
Culver ended the day achieving the No. 2 all-time Texas Tech mark this time at 2.30m/7-6.50, moving former teammates JaCorian Duffied and Bradley Adkins' marks down to No. 3 & 4.
Culver's 2.30m/7-6.50 bar sits not far behind his 2.33m/7-7.75 mark from the Corky Classic on the IAAF list as seventh in the world this year.
"It was great for Trey jump over 2.30 for the second time in-a-row… there's not many people in the history of my coaching that I have ever been able to see do that," head coach Wes Kittley said. "Zarriea is also  just solid every meet, it's really good to see her be so consistent and hit that best mark again."
Zarriea Willis tied her school record high jump height of 1.85m/6-0.75, which claimed her first-place meet finish and sits in second-place on the national list.
Vincent Crisp had another impressive meet, this time in the 800-meter run clocking a 1:48.01 run that sits third on the NCAA indoor qualifying list. Crisp's mark also serves as the fifth ranked Texas Tech indoor 800m mark, knocking down Johnathan Johnson's time of 1:48.42 from the NCAA Championships in 2005.
Clark Griffith started off the day, concluding his run in his first ever heptathlon for the Red Raiders with a No. 6 all-time 5,048 points.
This point total marked a personal best for the sophomore transfer from Mississippi State. To get to this mark, Griffith had bests in the 60-meter dash (7.19) yesterday, and notched a pole vault record of 4.24m/13-11 today.
Pushing for new personal records in the women's sprints was Sara Limp and Daja Gordon. Limp improved her 400-meter time from 54.54 to 53.90, earning first place amongst attached athletes. Daja Gordon clocked a 23.83 run in the 200m to improve on her previous time of 24.37.
Joel Latson had a breakthrough in the men's sprints, hitting two personal-bests, in the 60-meter prelims (6.89) and in the finals (6.855).Â
Crystal Onwukaife and Duke Kicinski led the throws another weekend. Kicinski pushed his weight throw mark from 18.33m/60-1.50 to a new best of 18.44m/60-6 for second place. Onwukaife claimed fourth in the women's shot put with her new best of 15.36m/50-4.75.
Next week the Red Raiders will host their second two-day meet at the Sports Performance Center, the Texas Tech Open, on February 2-3.
