HOCKLEY, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore Thomas Allkins earned a 2&1 win for the Red Raiders who finished the Big 12 Match Play Tournament with an all-square (1-1-4) consolation-round result against No. 2-ranked Oklahoma on Sunday at the Club at Houston Oaks.

No. 25 Texas Tech completed the inaugural event with a 1-3-1 record after tying with the Sooners who were the second seed in the tournament and the second-ranked team in the nation. The Red Raiders claimed a 4-1-1 victory over West Virginia on Saturday for their match play win, while dropping matches against No. 1 Oklahoma State, Kansas and TCU.

"The guys battled really hard today," Texas Tech coach Greg Sands said. "I felt like we hit some really good shots down the stretch and learned a lot about our team. We have to be aggressive and not give away holes. I think this weekend provided us valuable lessons for any match play tournament that we will play in the rest of the season. Hopefully we can make the final eight again and look back at this experience as one that we learned a lot from."

Baylor won the Big 12 Match Play Tournament by defeating Kansas 5-1 in the Championship Match.

Allkins finished the tournament with a 1-1-1 overall record after earning the 2&1 win over Garrett Reband on the final day. Kyle Hogan, Sandy Scott, Markus Braadlie and Ivan Ramirez each had all-square results against the Sooners to complete the three-day, five-round competition. The match came down to Ramirez, who would remain all-square with Patrick Welch in a head-to-head that was tied for nine of 18 holes.

Texas Tech will finish its fall schedule at the Isleworth Collegiate on Oct. 21-23 in Orlando, Florida.
