Lady Raider Tennis Wins Six at ITA Texas Regionals

All four Lady Raiders advance to Round of 32 in singles, Round of 16 in doubles

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Tech Women's Tennis team came away with six wins in the opening day of the ITA Texas Regional tournament on Thursday.

Sydney Jones opened the day with a comeback 6-7(3), 6-2, 1-0 victory over Abilene Christian's Sarah Eleanor Adams. No. 13 seed Francesca Sella quickly took a 6-3, 6-4 win against Bianca Vitale (Lamar) in the Round of 64.

Olivia Peet, the No. 22 seed in the tournament, defeated UTSA's Laura Cabrera in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 1-0) after dropping the opening set. No. 3 seeded Denise-Antonela Stoica rounded out the singles action with her 6-3, 7-5 win over Houston's Constandena Nicolaou.

In doubles action, both pairs picked up 6-1 victories to advance to the Round of 16.

The Lady Raiders begin play tomorrow with doubles at 8:45 a.m. and singles at 9:30 a.m. The singles round of 16 will also be played tomorrow starting at noon while the doubles quarterfinals will begin at 3 p.m.
