Men's Tennis Finishes Strong at ITA Texas Regionals

Red Raiders complete first day of regionals with 6-3 record
WACO, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team went on a 6-1 singles run to finish the first day of the ITA Texas Regionals in Waco.
After starting the tournament with a pair of losses in the round of 128, Tech fired back to complete the day with a 6-3 overall record, sending five players to the round of 32.
Matheus Leite started the charge for the Red Raiders by defeating his opponent from SMU by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Bjorn Thomson, who followed Leite on the court, picked up Tech's second victory of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Incarnate Word.
Into the afternoon and early evening, the veteran tandem of Artem Kapshuk and Tommy Mylnikov captured two more victories for the Red Raiders, as Kapshuk defeated his opponent from Texas A&M at a clip of 6-2, 6-4, while Mylnikov handled his adversary by a convincing margin of 6-3, 6-0.
Later in the night, the Red Raiders continued to roll with two more wins to close out the first day of singles play. Ilgiz Valiev and Parker Wynn both rolled their way into first round wins with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3, respectively.
Tech will be back in action tomorrow with both singles and doubles play beginning at 9 a.m.
