Francesca Sella, Olivia Peet, Sydney Jones move on in main draw

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – One singles player and a doubles team will represent the Lady Raider tennis team in the main draw quarterfinals of the ITA Texas Regionals on Saturday.

Francesca Sella earned two wins on her way to the main draw quarterfinals. As the No. 13 seeded player, she opened the day with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 20 Tatiana Makarova (Texas A&M). In the round of 16, Sella gave up only one game to SMU's Sarai Monarrez Yesaki as she clinched her spot in the quarterfinal round (6-1, 6-0).

Sella is set to face Tamuna Kutubidze of UNT on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. She is the first Lady Raider to advance to the main draw quarterfinals since Gabriela Talaba made the semifinals in 2016.

In doubles action, freshman duo Olivia Peet and Sydney Jones captured a 6-3 win over Texas A&M's Dorthea Faa-Hviding and Katya Townsend to clinch their spot in the quarterfinals. The two continued their win streak with a 6-3 victory over Alexandra Heczey and Ivana Babic (UNT), advancing to the semifinals.

The pair is set to face Victoria Smirnova and Anna Bowtell in the semifinals on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. They are the first doubles pair to advance to the main draw semifinals since Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici advanced to the final match in 2016.
