Red Raiders in Seventh After One Round in Austin

Sofia Garcia, Amy Taylor and Anna Dong all fired 4-over cards to lead Texas Tech Friday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech wrapped the opening round of the Betsy Rawls Invitational in seventh place Friday following an 18-over-par 306 card at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.

The Red Raiders will enter Saturday's second round of the 54-hole event three strokes back of sixth place Baylor and four behind Alabama, the top-ranked team in the latest Golfstat poll. Texas took the opening-day lead following a 3-over round on its home course.

Sofia Garcia, Amy Taylor and Anna Dong led the Red Raiders after each signed for a 4-over 76 round. The trio ended the day in a tie for 30th individually, just two strokes ahead of teammate Mami Yamamoto in a tie for 41st place.

Cecilie Nielsen closed out the Tech lineup with an 11-over card to place her in a tie for 67th overall. Destiny Arenas, playing in her first collegiate tournament, recorded an 18-over round as an individual.

Texas' Agathe Laisne (4-under) and Kaitlyn Papp (1-under) posted two of only three scores under par on the day as the Longhorns control a three-stroke lead over second-place Kent State. Florida (7-over), SMU (12-over) and Alabama (15-over) rounded out the top five.
