Francesca Sella Moves On to ITA Regional Semifinals

Sella becomes one of two to make the semifinal in school history
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Newcomer Francesca Sella qualified for the semifinals on day three of the ITA Texas Regional tournament.

She took down UNT's Tamuna Kutubidze in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) to clinch one of the final four spots. Sella joins former Lady Raider Gabriela Talaba as the second player to reach the main draw semifinals in school history. Talaba made the semifinals in 2016.

"It's been a lot of fun to watch Fran grow this week," Head Coach Todd Petty said. "She is starting to really buy in to the competitive commitment it takes to be successful at this level. She will have another tough one tomorrow, but it's a great opportunity to challenge herself once again."

Sella is set to face the no. 1 seeded Anna Turati (Texas) on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

In doubles action, Olivia Peet and Sydney Jones fell in a tough match to Victoria Smirnova and Anna Bowtell (Rice). The duo picked up a 6-2 win in the first set before the Rice pair forced a tiebreaker with a 7-5 win.
