Red Raiders Move Into Sixth Place at Betsy Rawls

Texas Tech slid past top-ranked Alabama Sunday during the second round of the 54-hole event
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech slid into sixth place at the Betsy Rawls Invitational Saturday after the Red Raiders fired an 8-over-par 296 second round at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.

Tech improved on its opening-round score by 10 strokes, moving past Alabama for sixth place at 26-over for the tournament. The Crimson Tide, the nation's No. 1 team in the latest Golfstat poll, trail the Red Raiders by 11 strokes entering Sunday's third and final round.

Head coach JoJo Robertson received consistency throughout the lineup as only two strokes separated four of Tech's five players. Mami Yamamoto led the group, signing for a 1-over 73 card that moved her to 9-over for the tournament and in a tie for 30th place.

Sofia Garcia and Amy Taylor followed with 2-over cards as the duo matched each other for the second-consecutive day. They are now 6-over for the tournament and in a tie for 25th place. Anna Dong added a 3-over round to join Yamamoto in 30th place.

Cecilie Nielsen completed the Tech lineup with an 11-over round for the second-consecutive day. Destiny Arenas, meanwhile, put together a 13-over card that was a five-stroke improvement from Friday.

Kent State recorded the tournament's low team round of the day with a 7-under card that pushed the Golden Flashes into a tie with host Texas atop the leaderboard. The two schools are 1-under for the tournament, 11 strokes better than third place Florida. Baylor and SMU round out the top five at 11-over and 24-over, respectively.

Tech will be paired with both Baylor and SMU when the final round begins with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start Sunday morning. Live scoring will be available throughout the round at Golfstat.com. Â
