Lady Raiders Win Six on Day One in Nashville

Texas Tech takes five singles, one doubles victory on opening day of tournament
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lady Raider Tennis captured six wins on the opening day of the June Stewart Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt.

Five players earned straight-set wins over Middle Tennessee State. Francesca Sella led the way with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Costanza Magazzini. She improved to 7-3 in the fall season.

Newcomer Denise-Antonela Stoica captured a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Lee Barnard (MTSU) for her third win of the season. Freshman Olivia Peet gave up only three games as she defeated Kim Kermet (6-2, 6-1). She is now 6-2 in her first semester as a Lady Raider.

Nell Miller opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over MTSU's Zani Barnard to improve to 3-3 on the year. Kennedy Bridgforth clinched her third win of the semester with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Marta Peris Herrero.

In doubles play, Sella and Bridgforth were the only doubles pair to capture a win over Georgia Tech. The two teamed up to defeated freshman duo Valeriya Deminova & Jeanette Lin, 6-1.

Doubles pairs Rush/Miller and Peet/Stoica played two very close matches against ranked opponents. Both teams fell, 7-6, and forced a tiebreaker set.
