Program-Record 10 Red Raiders Earn Academic All-Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball program has continued its upward trajectory on the court this season, and that trend has carried into the classroom as the team placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams, the league office announced Tuesday.

For the second straight year, Tech paced the Big 12 as four Red Raiders recorded 4.00 grade point averages. Junior Kyndal Cowan recorded a 4.00 GPA to land on the first team for the second consecutive year, while sophomores Haley Harman, Emerson Solano and Allison White joined her with perfect GPAs and first team nods.

Rounding out the nine first team selections were Katy Keenan, Emily Hill, Kylie Rittimann, Andrea Janss and Maggie Sagers. Junior Chandler Atwood received second team accolades for the second straight year.

In year three under Tony Graystone, Texas Tech's nine first team honors and 10 total honors overtake its 2014 totals of seven first team awards and nine total for the most in program history.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

On the court, the Red Raiders are 16-11 and 5-8 in the Big 12 with three regular-season matches remaining. Tech heads to Kansas State Saturday having already posted its most regular season wins since 2001 and most Big 12 wins since 2006.
