Red Raiders head into 2019 with five new signees in total
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis program has finalized their 2018-19 recruiting class with the signing of both Reed Collier and Tyler Stice on Thursday.
"Both of these guys have had outstanding years," head coach Brett Masi said. "To be able to build our program moving forward around two highly skilled players from here in the United States is huge for us."
Collier, who hails from Seabrook, Texas, is the no. 61 ranked recruit in the nation and a five-star prospect coming out of the 2019 signing class, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network. He recently finished second in what is largely considered the biggest tournament in the state of Texas, the USTA Texas Slam, in June.
"Reed is a big signee for this class" assistant coach Daniel Whitehead said. "It was important for him to stay in the state of Texas, and for us to be able to grab one of the best recruits in the nation is a huge building block for the future of this program. We can't wait to get both of these guys on campus."
Collier will join fellow teammates Justin Bloss, Jackson Cobb and Parker Wynn as players who hail from the Lone Star State.
"I chose Tech because of the great environment and coaching staff," Collier said. "They have an incredible business school and I look forward to earning my degree and playing some tennis along the way."
Stice, another five-star signee, is the no. 29 player in the class of 2019. He currently touts a record of 26-7 against fellow four and five star recruits in his class to pair with a no. 15 RPI in the Dunlop rankings. He also holds a 41-13 overall record over the last 12 months.
"I'm excited to get to Lubbock," Stice said. "I think Tech gives me the best opportunity to improve both as a student and an athlete."
The two nationally-touted players, set to join the team in 2019, round out a signing class of five players in total, including Argentinians Franco Ribero and Francisco Vittar, as well as Lorenzo Battista of Italy.
The Texas Tech men's tennis team will return to action on January 11, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to kick off their spring season.
