Thomson and Wynn Battle Their Way Into Semifinal Round at Fall Nationals

Seasoned doubles partners record third-straight victory in Arizona
SURPRISE, Arizona/Austin, Texas – The Texas Tech doubles duo of Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn delivered yet another win in the desert with a 7-6(9), 7-6(4) victory over Arizona State to advance to the semifinals of the ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Arizona.
After waiting most of the day to get their round started, the Tech tandem would eventually capture a critical first point in what became a back-and-forth affair in the first set to go up 1-0 with a 7-6(9) victory. In the second set, the Red Raider pair fought diligently to a 7-6(4) final tally to secure the match in straight sets.
Thomson and Wynn will compete again in the semifinals tomorrow.
In Austin, Jackson Cobb, Tommy Mylnikov, Artem Kapshuk and Matheus Leite all picked up two wins each to advance to the semifinals of their divisions at the Longhorn Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas.
The Red Raiders began the day by going winless in their three doubles matches throughout the morning. However, Tech would find their groove in the afternoon, as they finished the day with eight total victories.
Kapshuk began his run in singles play by defeating his opponent from UCF in straight sets and then following that performance with a 2-6, 6-0, 10-5 comeback win in the afternoon. Mylnikov also started hot, as the senior recorded two straight-set victories over the University of Texas and Auburn to advance to the semifinals. Leite followed suit with first and second round wins in two sets to advance to the semifinal round. Cobb would eventually round out the day in singles with two wins of his own over Louisville and Louisiana.
All semifinal rounds will be played on Saturday.
