February 10, 2018 | Men's Tennis
The Red Raiders wrap up their three-weekend road swing versus Texas A&M in Houston.
HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 24 Texas Tech men's tennis team will square off with its fourth ranked opponent and take on No. 6 Texas A&M on Sunday.
First serve is slated for 1 p.m. CT from the Downtown Club at the Met in Houston. With it being a neutral site match, no live stats will be available.
The Red Raiders (11-2) and Aggies (4-1) will meet for the second straight season in dual match action. Last season's meeting, a 5-2 Texas A&M win, marked the first time the two program met since the 2012 season as members of the Big 12 conference.
"Sunday is a great opportunity for our boys to go out and play relaxed," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "Texas A&M is a good team, and I feel we have put in a good amount of work this week to be ready for the challenge. We've played some big matches already this season. I'm excited to see what our boys can go out and do Sunday."
The No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions have been kind to Texas Tech through its opening matches. The Red Raiders have posted a combined 29-6 record in those spots.
Ilgiz Valiev has posted a team-leading six consecutive victories en route to a 10-2 record followed by Artem Kapshuk who has won five in a row to claim an 8-2 mark. Matheus Leite has secured a 9-4 record and will look to snap a two-game losing streak.
The top three spots in the lineup have been anchored by Tommy Mylnikov, Connor Curry and Alex Sendegeya. It was Mylnikov who notched his first dual match win to clinch a 4-3 win at Memphis last time out.
Texas Tech's doubles teams have posted a 22-9 record and collected 10 of 13 doubles points on the spring campaign. Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya check in at No. 35 in this week's ITA rankings.
