Red Raiders take on UT Arlington in midweek tilt Tuesday at 3 p.m.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Coming off a challenging opening weekend in College Station, the Texas Tech softball team will stay on the road for a 3 p.m. matchup at UT Arlington (3-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Â
The Red Raiders (1-3) got in four of their five games at the 2018 Aggie Classic before frigid weather ended the tournament a day early. Tech captured a thrilling extra-inning win over Boston College in its season opener Friday before losing a late lead to No. 6 Texas A&M and dropping a pair of battles against Houston to close the event.
Â
Junior infielder Jessica Hartwell hit safely in all four games, while redshirt freshman Michaela Cochran leads the team with a .400 batting average and a pair of doubles. Freshmen Breanna Russell and Kelcy Leach have also provided a charge at the plate, accounting for the team's two home runs.
Â
Sophomore Kassidy Scott tossed a team-high 12.2 innings on opening weekend and owns a 4.97 ERA and 1-2 record. Freshman Erin Edmoundson compiled 8.0 innings of work, posting a 0.88 ERA.
Â
UT Arlington is off to a solid start with wins over Syracuse, Southern Miss and UMass at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The Mavericks, whose only loss on the weekend was a 9-2 decision at No. 8 LSU, also had their weekend finale canceled because of weather conditions.
Â
The Red Raiders lead the overall series, 12-4, and have won 10 in a row against the Mavericks. The two teams last met in 2015 with Tech taking a 10-6 win in Arlington and a 13-5 run-rule victory at home. Texas Tech holds a 4-1 advantage against UTA in Arlington.
