Lady Raiders Fall at No. 6 Texas

Four Lady Raiders score in double figures
AUSTIN – The 100th meeting between the Lady Raiders and No. 6 Texas was nothing short of exciting, but Texas Tech dropped an 87-72 decision to the Longhorns Wednesday night.

Texas Tech (7-18, 1-13 Big 12) came out to fast start, outscoring Texas (21-4, 12-2 Big 12) in the opening period. Twelve of the 19 points came in the paint for the Lady Raiders as senior Jada Terry went 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-3 at the charity stripe.

The Lady Raiders had a one-point lead with 14 seconds left in the first quarter before senior Dayo Olabode hit a jumper from the elbow to give Tech a 19-16 lead.

Texas came back and outscored the Lady Raiders 30-20 in the second period to regain the lead. The Longhorns scored 30 more points in the third quarter to extend their lead to 76-57 heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Raiders cut into the Longhorns lead with a 15-11 fourth period, but it wasn't enough to overcome Texas.

There were six tied scores and six lead changes in the first half alone. The Lady Raiders held UT to a 26 percent shooting average from beyond the arc.

Four Lady Raiders scored in double figures led by Olabode who posted a season best 19 points, going 5-for-6 from the three-point line. Terry followed with 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Sophomores Erin DeGrate and Brittany Brewer scored 10 points each for the Lady Raiders.
