February 26, 2018 | Softball
Texas Tech welcomes a strong Aggie club that went to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball continues its nine-game home stand with a doubleheader against New Mexico State set for Tuesday, Feb. 27, with game times scheduled for 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., at Rocky Johnson Field.
Â
Tuesday is Texas Country day at The Rock. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youths (ages 2-17), and can be purchased online or through the Texas Tech ticket office (806-742-TECH). A live stream will be available through TexasTech.TV, while live stats can be found at SidearmStats.com. As always, follow @TexasTechSB on Twitter and Instagram for updates.
Â
Texas Tech started its home stand with a three-game sweep of Northwestern State last weekend after having its midweek tilt with Abilene Christian rescheduled. The Red Raiders (7-5) enter the midweek with a four-game winning streak, and then close its home stand next weekend with the eighth-annual Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic.
Â
Red Raider freshman Erin Edmoundson was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Monday after leading the Big 12 in wins (3-0) during the weekend. The Deer Park, Texas, native is the first Tech pitcher to earn the award since 2015 and first freshman since 1998. She enters Tuesday fourth in the Big 12 with a 1.12 ERA.
Â
At the plate, the Red Raiders recorded 19 hits and 12 runs in the series finale against Northwestern State. Junior Kiana Workman and sophomore Karli Hamilton both hit three-run bombs to power an offense that was without the services of leading hitter Jessica Hartwell, who has missed four games with a hand injury.
Â
Texas Tech leads the all-time series against NM State, 23-11, including 11-2 in Lubbock. Tech has won each of the last eight meetings against the Aggies, including a 5-3 decision in 2015.
Â
SCOUTING NM STATE
The Aggies (8-4) enter Tuesday as the top offensive unit in the Western Athletic Conference. A 2017 NCAA Tournament team, NM State boasts three players hitting over .400 on the season in Fahren Glachin, Shelby Shultes and Rachel Rodrigues.
Â
The three-time defending WAC Champions are coming off a 4-1 weekend at the UTEP tournament that included an 18-0 route of Idaho State. NM State took two-of-three from Kentucky to open the season and fell 2-0 to Oklahoma earlier in the year as well.
