Former Red Raiders will look for back-to-back Super Bowl titles Sunday with the Patriots
LUBBOCK, Texas – Former Texas Tech standouts Danny Amendola and LaAdrian Waddle will look for another Super Bowl title Sunday evening when their New England Patriots face the Philadelphia Eagles from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Â
Amendola will be looking for his third Super Bowl ring while with the Patriots while Waddle will be searching for his second. The duo was part of New England's historic Super Bowl comeback a year ago against the Atlanta Falcons. Amendola was also part of the Patriots' victory in Super Bowl XLIX as well.
Â
Amendola has been clutch for the Patriots throughout the postseason, earning the nickname "Danny Playoffs" for his ability to make plays in crucial moments. Over two playoff games this season, he has 18 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns
Â
In his two previous appearances in the Super Bowl, Amendola has been a reliable target of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. He has 13 catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns over his two previous outings in the biggest game in professional football.
Â
Amendola, one of three Patriots all-time to record multiple Super Bowl touchdowns with the organization, caught eight passes for 78 yards and a touchdown a year ago in the memorable rally from a 28-3 deficit against the Falcons. It marked the largest come-from-behind victory in Super Bowl history.
Â
Amendola caught a six-yard touchdown strike midway through the fourth quarter that cut Atlanta's lead to 28-20. He later helped tie the game with less than a minute to play in regulation on a screen play to convert a two-point conversation.
Â
In Super Bowl XLIX to close the 2014 season, Amendola hauled in five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown to help lead the Patriots to a 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. That season was just his second with the Patriots after he started his career with the then St. Louis Rams.
Â
Waddle, meanwhile, is hoping to play in his first Super Bowl as he was on the Patriots' roster but was on the inactive list a year ago due to an injury. He is listed as probable for tonight's game after suffering a leg injury late in New England's divisional round win over the Tennessee Titans.
Â
Kickoff for Super Bowl LII is slated for 5:30 p.m. CT with television coverage provided on NBC.
