March 28, 2018 | Softball
Tech returns to Rocky Johnson Field for the first time in 25 days on Thursday.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball launches its Big 12 home slate this week as it hosts No. 25 Oklahoma State for a three-game series March 29-31 at Rocky Johnson Field.
Â
The Red Raiders and Cowgirls will open the series on Thursday at 6 p.m. on faculty/staff appreciation night. The two sides resume play Friday at 4 p.m. on Disney Night, and conclude the series on Saturday at noon following a pre-game Easter egg hunt.
Â
The three-game set begins a six-game home stand for the Red Raiders (20-13, 0-3) in which they'll host two ranked teams. Following OSU, Tech will host No. 15 Baylor for a three-game series April 6-8. Tickets for all home games at Rocky Johnson Field can be purchased online at $5 for adults and $3 for children (ages 2-17).
Â
Tech raced to 20 wins during non-conference play, its best start through 30 games in the Adrian Gregory era, and enters the weekend with an 8-2 mark at the Rock this season. The Red Raiders closed out a 14-game stretch away from home last weekend when they opened Big 12 play at No. 3 Oklahoma.
Â
For Oklahoma State, Thursday's game will be just the third true away game of the season with the Pokes at 1-1 on the road this season. OSU is in its third season under head coach Kenny Gajewski and has been ranked in the Top 25 for nine consecutive weeks. The Cowgirls have won 14 of their last 17 overall but come in on a two-game skid following a 12-inning loss to Iowa State and a midweek defeat to Wichita State.
Â
Leading the Cowgirls is third baseman Vanessa Shippy. The two-time All-American and 2016 Big 12 Player of the Year ranks second in the league with a .526 batting average on the season. Shippy leads the Big 12 in on-base percentage at .684 and runs with 43. OSU features two pitchers with a sub-2.60 ERA in Emmie Robertson and Samantha Clakley. Â
Â
The last time Oklahoma State visited Lubbock, the Red Raiders swept a wild series that included two walk-off wins and a 19-18 victory that remains as the highest-scoring Tech game of all time. The Red Raiders have won four of the last five series between the two teams, but the Pokes hold a 33-23 advantage in the series overall.
Each game will be streamed at TexasTech.TV. Live stats will be available through SidearmStats.com. As always, be sure to follow @TexasTechSB on Twitter and Instagram for updates and visit TexasTech.com for full recaps.
