Red Raiders Head to Texas Relays

Red Raiders one of nine programs to compete in two-day meet
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Track & Field heads to Austin, Texas, for the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this weekend.

Qualifying Red Raiders begin competition at the Mike A. Meyers Stadium on Thursday starting with the women's hammer throw at 11 a.m. Running events will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the 400m Hurdles.

Tech has 54 athletes to qualify in 27 events for the Texas Relays.

PRESEASON RANKS
The men's team opened the 2018 outdoor season at No. 9 in the preseason outdoor U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) computer rankings. The ranking was the highest preseason ranking since 2012.

TOP PERFORMERS LAST WEEKEND
Last weekend, the Red Raiders competed at the Wes Kittley Invitational hosted by ACU. The women's team finished the day with 14 event champions, 29 top 3 finishes, 13 team season best performances and 24 individual PRs. The men's team finished with six event titles, 19 top 3 finishes, 11 team season best performances and 15 individual PRs.

In the triple jump, Paetyn Revell finished on top with her 13.43m (44-0.75) personal best leap. Her mark is the no. 2 jump in the country. Crystal Onwukaife won the shot put in her second straight meet with another personal best throw (16.23m (53-3). The throw ranks sixth in the country.

Norman Grimes won the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 51.40 that ranks eighth in the country.

Next up, the Red Raiders will head to Tempe, Ariz., for the Sun Angel Classic on April 6-7.
