JoJo Roberson announced Monday the signing of Maddie Goldberg and Lubbock native Destiny Arenas
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson announced Monday the signing of Maddie Goldberg and Lubbock native Destiny Arenas to a National Letter of Intent to join the Red Raiders for the 2018-19 season.
Â
Goldberg is slated to join the Red Raiders after a stellar prep career at Hyde Park, a private school in the Austin area. She finished undefeated during her 2017 junior season, capping the year with a TAPPS Class 5A state title. Goldberg, who finished third in Class 4A as a sophomore, is also a regular on the Texas junior circuit, having played several American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events throughout the state.
Â
"We are very excited to welcome Maddie to our program," Robertson said. "She is a strong player and will be a great addition for us. It will be fun to watch her play over the next four years."
Â
Â
"We are excited to have Destiny joining our team in August," Robertson said. "I'm so happy she has chosen Texas Tech and will be able to play in front of her friends and family."
Â
Goldberg and Arenas join a Tech program that has advanced to an NCAA Regional in seven of Robertson's eight seasons at the helm. The Red Raiders have made two appearances at the NCAA Championships during that span, including a fifth-place finish in 2015.
Â
The Red Raiders, coming off their first tournament win of the season Sunday at the Lady Boilermaker Classic, will look to add to that total in the upcoming weeks as Tech tees off at the Big 12 Championships on Friday morning. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be hosted at the Dallas Athletic Club.

Arenas, meanwhile, joins the Red Raider golf program after a successful prep career at Lubbock High School. Arenas, the daughter of former Tech men's basketball standout Jesus Arenas, is the first local golfer to join the women's golf program since Mariah Montoya played one season with the Red Raiders during the 2014-15 campaign. Please help us welcome our newest Red Raider, Maddie Goldberg! ?? #WreckEm pic.twitter.com/UMH9848fDO
