April 23, 2018 | Men's Basketball
Moore will join the Red Raiders as a freshman starting in 2018-19.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's basketball head coach Chris Beard has signed Khavon Moore to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) announced Thursday as part of the spring NCAA signing period.
Moore, a 6-8 forward from Macon, Georgia, played his high school basketball for Josh Grube at Westside High School. He played for UA program Atlanta Xpress led by CEO Winfred Jordan and head coach Darren Darby.
Moore is regarded by ESPN.com as a four-star recruit at No. 39 nationally and ranked No. 44 nationally by Rivals.com in the Class of 2018. The Georgia native chose Texas Tech over Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida, Georgia Oklahoma, Providence, UCLA and USC.
Moore averaged 22 points and nine rebounds per game during his junior season. He is a multi-dimensional wing player that can play three positions on both sides of the floor. Moore possesses a strong ability to play on the ball, create for others and is a volume rebounder. He has amassed over 2,000 career points during his high school career.
Moore is the ninth Top 100 high school player to sign with Texas Tech under third-year head coach Chris Beard and is the fifth Top 100 member to commit to the Red Raiders in the Class of 2018. The list includes Deshawn Corphew, Kyler Edwards, Tariq Owens and C.J. Roberts.
Texas Tech is coming off the program's first NCAA Elite Eight trip and a program-best second-place Big 12 finish en route to a 27-10 record in 2017-18. The 27 wins were the second-highest total in program history for a season only behind the 30-2 mark put together by the 1995-96 squad under James Dickey. The Red Raiders also set a program single season record with eight victories over Associated Press Top 25 opponents and captured a program-best No. 6 final ranking in the USA Today/Coaches Top 25 poll.
