Jung Brings In NCBWA Co-Hitter Of The Week Honor
April 24, 2018 | Baseball
Jung totaled 10 hits, seven for extra bases, during an historic week
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Josh Jung has been named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Co-Hitter of the Week, the publication announced today.
Â
His national honor comes a day after earning Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season. It's his first national weekly accolade in his career and second by a Red Raider in as many years, as Hunter Hargrove picked up the award on May 1, 2017.
Â
Jung, a San Antonio native, recorded 10 hits over four games last week, with seven going for extra bases, the most of any conference player during that stretch. He totaled two doubles, two triples and three homers, two coming in the same game at New Mexico on April 17.
Â
The midweek in Albuquerque had a little more meaning than just his first two home run day, as Jung completed the first cycle by a Red Raider since 2008. He went 5-for-5 in the contest, hitting a triple in the ninth inning to seal the deal.
Â
It was part of a career-high eight RBI day for Jung, who finished the week with 13 overall to go with eight runs scored. His cycle was also the 19th recorded in Big 12 history. Jung and the Red Raiders finished the week with a 3-1 mark, securing a series victory over No. 14 Oklahoma.
Â
The No. 4 Red Raiders return to action at No. 7 Arkansas on Tuesday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m., kicking off a two-game set at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.
